Minneapolis In Photos

I have no idea what's going on with the font, but who cares, right? Here are some choice photos from Minneapolis. We partied with Tyler's buddies from Gustavus (that's the college he went to for his first two years -- if you've never heard of it, don't feel bad, because neither had I!)

It's A Golf Cart On A Pickup Truck!!

What will those crazy Mid-Westerners think of next...

Bug Cemetery

The same night that the bunny rabbit "accidents" took place, another carnage occured. I asked Tyler if it was snowing and he replied, "Shanon, those are bugs." Bugs! Here is a photo taken the next morning of the front of the car, forever to be referred to now as the "bug cemetery."

Dead Bunny Rabbits

We're in Minneapolis right now (and I'll be uploading a bunch of photos later today), but in the mean time I'd like to share a little story about bunny rabbits. The other night Tyler and I were driving through Wyoming on highway 59 (I think) which isn't a national highway but a state one, meaning it's tiny, poorly lit, and you can drive 100 miles an hour. That is, when it's light out.

We drove through it in the dead of night. I was casually taking a nap when Tyler suddenly screamed and I jumped up. The reason for the scream was immediately revealed as poor Tyler exclaimed that he had run over a rabbit. He felt horrible so I offered to say a little goodbye prayer that went something like this:

Dear bunny rabbit
We hardly knew you
But we'd rather you live free
And die quickly under our wheels
Than live forever in a cage.

The following hours were perhaps the most murderous of our entire lives. These poor little bunny rabbits kept running in front of the car and committing suicide. I kept screaming every time I saw one on the side of the road -- it was brutal. At one point Tyler swerved the car (a dangerous thing to do, don't try this at home) when he saw a godzilla rabbit sitting on his hind legs in the middle of the road.

And that's my story. More photos to follow!

An Homage To The Midwest

Sorry to those of you that have been anxiously checking this blog for any updates (I'm guessing there are at least 2 of you), but we've been oh-so busy lately driving 10-12 hours a day. Tonight we'll finally be in Minneapolis, where I can regale you with stories. Until then, here are some photos we've taken along the way.

The Great Learner's Permit Debate

I haven't had a license since 2000, which meant that I had to start the entire process all over again. Why did I even bother, you ask? Because a certain someone (ahem, Tyler) said to me, "If you think I'm driving from San Diego to Baltimore while you sit in the back seat sleeping, you can just forget the whole thing." Yawn, sigh, fine. How hard could it be? As it turns out -- very hard.

I got as far as my learner's permit and then gave up. Apparently so long as I comply with each state's permit laws, I'll be fine. Therefore I will be using the permit you see here to drive cross-country. Yay! And amazingly enough, it also functions as a state ID (so long passport!) and a mugshot in case I'm ever in need of one.

(On a side note: many of you meddlers have already expressed concern/disbelief that this is not within the law, but I assure you it is.)
